About Ogle County’s Community Emergency Notification System The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and the Ogle County Office of Emergency Management are implementing a Community Emergency Notification System. It allows the County to rapidly notify residents and businesses by telephone. In the event of an emergency, an operator using the system can identify the affected neighborhood or region of the county and record a message that describes the situation. The system will automatically call listed and unlisted telephone numbers within the affected area and deliver the recorded message. If phone lines are busy, the system will attempt to redial those numbers to make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine. Sign Up for Cellular or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Service Cellular or VoIP phone numbers are not currently in the system database. If you would like to be contacted on your cell or VoIP phone, you must register your number. Please note that the service is for Ogle County businesses and residences. Calls regarding property or situations outside the county may not covered. While phone numbers can be outside of Ogle County service, you must enter a valid address within the boundaries of Ogle County to be eligible for the service. The County will contact you annually via your e-mail address to verify that the phone information is still valid. If the phone number is not confirmed it will be removed from the database. Benefits of Signing Up For Community Emergency Notification System The system allows you to receive emergency notifications that affect your home or business very quickly. You don't have to purchase any new equipment and you'll only be notified of emergencies that affect the area your home or business is located. In addition to providing notifications, the system has a "Guardian Calling" feature which provides the ability to call any resident daily or on selected day(s) of the week, at a specified time to verify if she/he is okay. The call prompts for a Personal Identification Number. If there is no response or if the response is incorrect, the system automatically notifies two pre-designated guardians. This optional service is provided at no cost to Ogle County residents who wish to enroll.
